Things to do in Clearlake
Anderson Marsh State Historic Park
Anderson Marsh State Historic Park contains oak woodlands, grass-covered hills, and tule marsh. One of the largest groups of people in prehistoric California, the Southeastern Pomo, knew this land as home. Today, descendants of those people still live nearby.
Austin Creek State Recreation Area
With open woodlands, rolling hills, and meadows, its topography offers a strong contrast to the dense, primeval redwood forest below. Here you will discover deep tree-lined ravines cooled by year round streams; grassy hillsides burnished golden by the heat of summer sun and turned emerald by plentiful winter rains; oak capped knolls that seem to float like islands on lakes of lowland fog; and rocky mountaintops that offer glimpses of the Pacific ocean. A paradise for the hiker and equestrian, Austin Creek rewards the explorer with twenty miles of trails and panoramic wilderness views.
Clear Lake State Park
Clear Lake State Park is on the shores of California’s largest freshwater lake. The area is popular for all kinds of water recreation, including swimming, fishing, boating and water-skiing.
Lake Mendocino
Lake Mendocino is set amongst the rolling hills and oak groves of Mendocino county near the headwaters of the picturesque Russian River, one of the cleanest rivers in the country. Created by the construction of Coyote Dam on the East Fork of the Russian River in 1958, the lake has a surface area of 1,822 acres. The structure provides flood damage reduction, water conservation, hydroelectric power, and recreational opportunities like hiking, water skiing and boating.
Montgomery Woods State Reserve
Montgomery Woods State Reserve, in the heart of the Coast Range, has redwoods, where visitors can walk along one of the park’s many trails. It is an excellent example of both a magnificent coastal redwood grove and a beautiful fern forest. Call 707-937-5804 for more information.
