Aņo Nuevo State Reserve
Fifty-five miles south of San Francisco and the Golden Gate, a low, rocky, windswept point juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The Spanish maritime explorer Sebastian Vizcaino sailed by the point on January 3, 1603. His diarist and chaplain of the expedition, Father Antonio de la Ascension, named it Punta de Aņo Nuevo (New Year's Point) for the day on which they sighted it in 1603. Cowell Ranch Beach
Cowell Ranch Beach is a model of conservation, preservation, and accessible open space. This little-known park consists of a single trail running between a farm easement and private property, a sandy beach, and a separate harbor seal preserve.

Gray Whale Cove State Beach
The beach (a.k.a. Devil's Slide) features a sheltered cove surrounded by cliffs that drop abruptly into the Pacific. A steep trail leads down to the beach. There is a small picnic area on the bluff above Gray whales can often be seen close to the shore the beach. Sunbathing is the most popular activity between mid-April and mid-May. Half Moon Bay State Beach
Four miles of broad, sandy beaches stretch out to welcome visitors to Half Moon Bay. This picturesque setting is ideal for sunbathing, fishing and picnicking. A campground provides accommodations for those who wish to visit longer. Call 650-726-8819 for more information.

Montara State Beach
This beach is a popular location for visitors who can explore the beach tide pools or go surf fishing. The beach is bounded by low hills both to the north and south. Restaurants and grocery stores are nearby. Call 650-726-8819 for more information.
