The Eugene O'Neill National Historic Park is the preservation site of Tao House, the home of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Eugene O'Neill. Free shuttle service to the 13-acre site, is provided by the National Park Service from Danville. From 1937 until 1944, the home was occupied by O'Neill and his wife. He wrote his final plays - The Iceman Cometh, Long Day's Journey Into Night, from inside the home.
Fundraising efforts by the Eugene O'Neill Foundation, prevented demolition of the house in the early 1970s. The site was declared a National Historic Site in 1971 and has been managed by the National Park Service since 1980.
