Things to do in Redding

Lassen Volcanic National Park
Lassen Volcanic National Park is located in Northeastern California at the southern terminus of the Cascade Mountains, approximately 50 miles east of Redding, California. Call 530-595-4444 for more information.

McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park
The park is within the Cascade Range and Modoc Plateau natural region, with forest and five miles of streamside and lake shoreline, including a portion of Lake Britton. The park's centerpiece is the 129-foot Burney Falls, which is not the highest or largest waterfall in the state, but possibly the most beautiful. Call 530-335-2777 for more information.

Shasta State Historic Park
Six miles west of Redding a row of old, half-ruined, brick buildings remind passing motorists that Shasta City, the lusty "Queen City" of California's northern mining district, once stood on this site. These ruins and some of the nearby roads, cottages, and cemeteries are all silent but eloquent vestiges of the intense activity that was centered here during the California gold rush. Call 530-243-8194 for more information.

Whiskeytown National Recreation Area
Lake based recreational opportunities are Whiskeytown's primary focus during the hot and dry summer months. Whiskeytown Lake provides 36 miles of shoreline and 3,200 surface acres of water, and is excellent for most water-related activities including swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing and scuba diving. Call 530-242-3400 for more information.

William B. Ide Adobe State Historic Park
William B. Ide was named president of the short-lived California Bear Republic - which lasted for 22 days. The adobe memoria? to him is located in a picnic area overlooking the Sacramento River. The park features the old adobe home, carriage shed, blacksmith shop and a small visitor center. Call 530-529-8599 for more information.
