Visit Ukiah - Stay For the Mushrooms
Set just along the U.S. Route 101 and a right outside of Lake Mendocino, Ukiah is the largest city in Mendocino County. Founded in 1856, the city is known for it's mushroom production and wineries - and the Barra of Mendocino Winery is one to check out. Once there, be sure to try the award winning 2007 Barra of Mendocino Pinot Noir, free wine tastings are available on a daily basis. Many guests also enjoy a visit to the Redwood Empire Fair, held every year in August.
Home to the Anderson Valley Brewing Company, many guests also enjoy Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, Poleeko Gold Pale Ale and Deep Enders Dark Porter - all locally brewed. In mid-November, be sure to check out the Mendocino Wine and Mushroom Fest, where you can sample a variety of the 500 different mushrooms they have to offer.
